**Interview with Dr. Leila Mansour, Middle East ⁣Affairs Expert**

**Editor:** ⁣Thank‌ you for ⁣joining us today, Dr. Mansour. ⁤We are seeing escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, particularly after the recent Israeli airstrikes in ‍southern Lebanon that reportedly resulted in civilian casualties. What are your thoughts on the implications of ‌these strikes?

**Dr. ⁢Mansour:**⁣ Thank you for having me. The situation is indeed very concerning. The recent strikes‌ on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon indicate a ⁣serious escalation in the ongoing conflict. With reports of civilian casualties, including at ‌least 16 deaths⁢ and over 50 injuries, it highlights the increasing risks for non-combatants‍ in such military actions.

**Editor:** You mentioned the casualties. How ⁤do you think this will affect public sentiment in Lebanon and the broader region?

**Dr. Mansour:** The loss of civilian life is always a galvanizing factor in conflict situations. In⁢ Lebanon, this could lead to increased support for Hezbollah, as many may view the group as a defender against external aggression. Moreover, it might incite further retaliatory actions against Israel from various factions within Lebanon, ⁤heightening regional tensions even further.

**Editor:** The article also mentions that Lebanese factions have retaliated with missile and drone ⁣attacks on northern Israel. How do⁣ you perceive this cycle of retaliation?

**Dr.⁣ Mansour:** It’s a dangerous spiral. As‌ one side responds to‌ aggression, the other feels justified in continuing its ‌military operations. This tit-for-tat cycle⁢ can quickly‍ escalate, leading to a broader conflict that involves additional players in the region.‍ The international community must intervene⁢ and encourage ‍dialogue to prevent further escalation.

**Editor:** ⁣Speaking of‌ international involvement, do you think the global response will ⁢change as a result‌ of these latest developments?

**Dr. Mansour:** There’s always ‍a concern that countries outside the immediate conflict may increase‍ their support for one side or the other,⁢ based on their political⁢ interests. However, there’s also⁢ a growing humanitarian⁤ awareness that could ⁣compel countries to push for a ceasefire and renewed diplomatic efforts. The challenge ‍is mediating a resolution that respects the rights‌ and security of all parties ‍involved.

**Editor:** Thank you, Dr. Mansour, for‌ sharing your insights on⁢ this complex situation. It’s important to keep the conversation going as events unfold.

**Dr. Mansour:** Thank you for having⁤ me. It’s vital that we remain informed and engaged as these developments ⁤progress.
