Cebu Normal University (CNU) is celebrating a momentous achievement after its nursing graduates dominated the November 2024 Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination. Charimae Cañazares, a magna cum laude graduate, claimed the top spot with an impressive score of 92.60 percent.
A Celebration of Excellence
The newly licensed nurses expressed overwhelming joy at a press conference held on Friday, November 29, 2024. Cañazares, in particular, beamed with pride, attributing her success to dedicated preparation.
“I have always aimed to be among the topnotchers,” Cañazares shared. “Excellence has always been my goal, and I’ve been a driven student throughout my academic journey.”
She emphasized her commitment to hard work, refusing to settle for mediocrity in any pursuit.
Cañazares is now considering her next steps, weighing the options of a nursing career and further studies in medicine.
CNU Nursing Graduates Excel
Cañazares wasn’t the only CNU graduate to excel. Eight other graduates secured spots among the top 10.

Eight years ago, another CNU graduate claimed the number one spot in the licensure exams, marking the start of a continued legacy of excellence. With an unbroken 100-percent passing rate, CNU has cemented its reputation as a leader in nursing education.
Commitment to Quality Education
Dr. Joseph Elvir Tubilan, Vice President for Academic and Internal Affairs, and Dr. Laurence Garcia, Dean of the College of Nursing, reaffirmed CNU’s commitment to academic excellence on behalf of the institution.
“We are incredibly proud of our graduates,” said Dr. Tubilan. “This achievement is a reflection of their hard work and the dedication of our faculty and staff.”
CNU will recognize the outstanding achievement of its graduates with cash incentives. Cañazares will receive P100,000, while Estillore and Abellana will receive P60,000 each. The remaining top 10 graduates will each receive P40,000.

**(Host):** From what we understand, you’ve always aimed for excellence throughout your academic journey. What drove you to pursue this path and strive for the top?
**(Charimae Cañazares):** I’ve always been a driven student, and nursing specifically has always been my passion. I believe in making a real difference in people’s lives, and nursing provides that opportunity in a tangible way. Exceeding expectations and achieving excellence seemed like a natural extension of that commitment.
**(Host):** Many students find the licensure exams incredibly challenging. What strategies did you use to prepare yourself for this rigorous process?
**(Charimae Cañazares):** Dedication and consistent effort were key. I had a structured study plan, delved deep into the material, and sought guidance whenever I needed it. I also made sure to prioritize self-care to avoid burnout and maintain focus throughout the preparation period.
**(Host):** What are your plans now that you’ve achieved this remarkable feat?
**(Charimae Cañazares):** I’m considering my options carefully. I’m
eager to start my nursing career and gain valuable experience, but I’m also seriously considering further studies in medicine.
