Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari is optimistic that the number of Red and White athletes who will receive tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics will continue to increase as qualifications progress. Currently, there are nine Indonesian athletes who have confirmed their places in the 2024 Olympics.

There were two additional names that passed, namely from athletics. The two names are Lalu Muhammad Zohri in the men’s 100 meters and Odekta Naibaho in the women’s marathon. Both will compete in Paris with wildcard tickets.

“We got two additional numbers from athletics, namely Zohri and Odekta, thus increasing the number to nine,” said Okto at the Iftar event with the Indonesian NOC with the theme 72 Years of Guarding the Red and White with the Indonesian Olympic Committee in Jakarta, Thursday (28/3).

“We are still waiting for athletes from other sports to complete the qualifications. After that, we will make target calculations following everyone has finished qualifying until next June,” added Okto.

KOI, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other stakeholders will only discuss the medal target following confirming the number of athletes who have qualified. Okto said that following all the qualifications were completed, his party would sit down together to make a final study.

The nine Indonesian representatives who have won tickets to the 2024 Olympics are two archery athletes, Arif Dwi Pangestu and Diananda Choirunisa, artistic gymnast Rifda Irfanaluthfi.

Meanwhile, Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo hopes that preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics will continue to be accelerated. The Minister of Youth and Sports advised sports federations to maximize the application of sports science in order to optimize athlete performance.

“Right now we are really monitoring the data comprehensively and there are relatively no athletes who train conservatively or classically anymore but instead involve the use of technology,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

“For this Olympics, we have sent many athletes to train abroad and used foreign and local coaches and experts for comparison. So, there is a combination and everything is managed and monitored between the Ministry of Youth and Sports, NOC and sports,” he said. (Z-11)
