8th Edition of the Nivelles Beer Festival: A Night of Tasting and Music

The Beer Festival has become, in a few years, an important back-to-school event in Nivelles. Even during the Covid period, the ASBL Genef had shown creativity and imagined a “labyrinth” allowing the famous sanitary bubbles to be respected. This weekend, the event will be in its 8th edition and the formula has been slightly revamped.

Thus, the concerts that were offered during the event on a stage set up for the occasion will no longer be part of it. On the other hand, there will be marching bands and an evening on Saturday. And the stands will remain open until 1am. What to overshadow the activity of cafeterias in the city center? “No. It was indeed a fear of some during the first edition but it has not been verifiedanswers the president of the ASBL Genef, Damien Iweins. We stop before the cafes close: at 1 a.m. on Saturdays, and at 8 p.m. on Sundays. Those who want to continue the evening can go to the establishments on the Grand-Place, and quite a few do. We do not respond to the same desire either: it is not the same thing to discover beers at home standing around a stand, and to settle down with friends in a café.

Another change announced, the term “microbrewery” is no longer included in the title of the festival. Twenty breweries have confirmed their presence and no less than a hundred different beers will be offered for tasting. But that will make a little less stands than during the last editions, which was also a wish of the participants.

For the organizers, the festival adapts to economic reality. It is always a question of looking for new “craft” beers with a real local anchorage, but a good part of the microbreweries of the beginnings have now become real breweries. The Jean de Nivelles and Betchard (Tubize) brotherhoods will be present.

Those who collect galopins over the editions will also notice that this year’s will shrink: it goes from 20 to 16 centilitres. Here too, the organizers have listened to the brewers: this allows two tasting gallops to be filled with a 33 cl beer.

For the rest, the principle remains the same: entry is free to enjoy the entertainment and to taste, just buy the galopin for 5 €, then pay around 2 € per beer tasted on the stands.
