86-year-old woman found dead in her garden: “She was violently killed”

Last Sunday, the body of an 86-year-old woman was found in the garden of her home in Zoersel. Widowed, it was a member of her family who made the sad discovery. The emergency services were called on the spot to certify the death but the police also went to the scene because according to the first observations it was a suspicious death. An investigation was therefore opened.

Spokesman Kristof Aerts of the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office confirmed today that it was indeed a murder: “The autopsy has now shown that the woman was violently killed. The investigation continues under the direction of the investigating judge by the Federal Judicial Police (FGP) of Antwerp.” The police and the scientific police conducted a thorough search of the garden on Thursday followingnoon. If the family did not speak on the subject, MP Katrien Schryvers (CD&V) said she was very saddened. “I visited this lady and her husband as Alderman at the time on their 50th wedding anniversary. I remember them as very ordinary and very cordial people. A woman so nice who is killed on a Sunday morning? Let’s hope that this drama will be clarified soon”, she declared to our colleagues from Laatste Nieuws.
