836 families are getting houses in Khulna

In order to implement this directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, ‘Not a single person of Bangladesh will remain homeless’, the program of providing land and houses to all the landless and homeless families of the country is ongoing. Next Wednesday (March 22), the Prime Minister will hand over the land deeds and house keys to a total of 836 landless and homeless families, including the remaining 79 of the third phase and 757 of the fourth phase, at 10:30 am in Khulna.

75 houses in Rupsa Upazila, 90 in Terkhada Upazila, 200 in Dumuria Upazila, 66 in Paikgacha Upazila, 75 in Dakop Upazila, 80 in Batiaghata Upazila, 180 in Dighlia Upazila and 70 in Fultala Upazila will be transferred.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Khandkar Yasir Arefin informed the press conference on Monday (March 20) followingnoon.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the work of rehabilitation of landless and homeless families is being successfully conducted in Khulna district. In the fourth stage, regarding 2 lakh 84 thousand 500 rupees are spent on the construction of the house.

It was informed in the press conference that ‘A’ class families are those who have no land and house, landless, homeless, scattered and helpless poor families and ‘B’ class families are those who have maximum 10 percent of land resources, but no house. For ‘A’ class families, the landless-homeless are being rehabilitated on priority basis by providing semi-built single houses along with two hundred plots of government land, government purchased land, donated land in favor of the government or resumed land.

A total of 12.478 acres of land including 3.70 acres in Paikgacha upazila of Khulna district, 2.418 acres in Dighlia upazila, 2 acres in Batiaghata upazila, 4.12 acres in Fultala upazila and 0.24 acres in Rupsa upazila were purchased due to lack of available land.

It was also informed in the press conference that the total number of landless and homeless families in Khulna district is 5 thousand 529. Already in the first phase 922 houses, 1 thousand 351 in the second phase and 906 houses with land ownership in the third phase have been handed over. The total number of houses allocated in the third phase of the ongoing fourth phase is 1 thousand 819. After the landless-homeless rehabilitation in 1 thousand 62 houses currently underway, there will be 376 landless-homeless families remaining in Khulna district.

It is to be noted that a total of 153 including 30 in Terkhada Upazila, 73 in Paikgacha Upazila and 50 in Dakop Upazila in the barracks built by Bangladesh Army and two landless-homeless families have been rehabilitated in Dakop Upazila by the Member of Parliament of Khulna-1 Constituency.

Khulna Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pulak Kumar Mandal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) SM Munim Lincoln, Additional Deputy Commissioner (LA) Atiqul Islam and print and electronic media workers were present in the press conference.
