An 80-year-old woman from Salzburg was deprived of her entire savings by an unscrupulous fraudster via the Internet. The woman then even took out a loan, which she gave to the perpetrator.
The unknown criminal contacted his future victim over the Internet at the end of 2021 and following some time gained the trust of the elderly Salzburg woman.
The perpetrator told countless stories regarding how he repeatedly needed large sums of money. Among other things, he had been attacked or was being held at customs.
Over the past two years, the woman transferred around 80,000 euros to at least five accounts in Austria and France. When her savings ran out, she even took out a loan. After all the money was gone, she finally went to the police and asked them for help so that the person she was allegedly detained might be released.
The victim was convinced until the end that the stranger actually existed. The investigation is ongoing.
