8,000 km in the Pacific against cancer

Pendant 80 daysthese five French women and a Spaniard are relayed by oar on a board to travel 8,000 km from Peru to the island of Moorea, in French Polynesia. The “Cap optimist” association, at the origin of this adventure, made it possible to raise 800,000 euros for children with cancer. The rowers were warmly welcomed by hundreds of Polynesians, some of whom were suffering from cancer (source 1).

Athletes have endured Difficult conditions, but they pulled together to take up this mental and human challenge of living together on a small boat. Stéphanie Barneix, world champion in coastal rescue, is one of the rowers and has overcome four cancers. The fundraiser made it possible toequip care centers with sports equipment and support children with cancer. The rowers will go to schools, to the hospital in Tahiti and to the new Cancer Institute of French Polynesia to promote sport-health.
