This suite of 80 m² was designed by architects Diego Raposo and Manuela Simas to be the refuge of a couple in their 40s and 50s in the 400 m² residence where they live, in Petropolismunicipality in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro.
The clients had already renovated the house with another architectural firm, but felt the need to add an addition to the second floor to house a walk-in closet, with a gym below.
“They wanted a master suite with a five-star hotel feel, as well as a very spacious closet connected to the bedroom, with a side for each one”, says Raposo. “Her side also gained a comfortable bench, which serves as a support for makeup”, he adds.
The architects took advantage of the fact that there is a garden at the back of the house to make a huge tear in the wall (enclosed in glass) and so bring green into space. Even the side of the shower cubicle facing the bedroom is completely made of glass so as not to impede the connection indoor/outdoor.
In decoration, as the existing spaces were completely reformulated, Raposo says that it was necessary to buy new furniture. Among the signature design pieces, he highlights the Pitu armchair (by Aristeu Pires) and the helga chair (from Estudiobola) on the work table, next to the window.
To bring comfort and a sense of welcome, all the walls of the room were lined with natural freijo wood panels. The floor of the bathroom area, including the shower stall, was covered with levigated Siena granite, while the floor of the bedroom and closet is made of Tauari wood, covered in fish scale.
Finally, between the bathroom and the bedroom, a hole was made in the plaster ceiling to embed two blinds blackout motorizedwhich guarantee privacy when necessary or allow you to control the light in the space at bedtime.
