Celtic manager Enze Postecoglu is emerging as a candidate to manage Tottenham Hotspur.
Conte has parted ways with Tottenham. On the morning of the 27th (Korean time), Tottenham announces through the club’s official channel, “Coach Antonio Conte is leaving the team by mutual agreement. He led the European Football Association (UEFA) Champions League (UCL) in the first season. We We thank him for his dedication and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
The press conference was a decisive moment. Conte said at a press conference on the 19th, “This is unacceptable. Among the 11 players, I see some selfish players. Players who don’t help each other and don’t play hard. This is not a team,” he openly denigrates the players. Eventually, on the 27th, coach Conte terminated his contract under mutual agreement with Tottenham, and Tottenham appointed coach Christian Stellini as acting manager.
Conte has left, and candidates for the new managerial position have been discussed. Mauricio Pochettino, who led Tottenham in the past, and Roberto De Gervi, manager of Brighton, were mentioned, and manager Julian Nagelsmann, who recently left Bayern Munich, is also being mentioned as a priority.
Here, director Enze Postecoglu is also nominated. Reporter Matt Law of the British media ‘Telegraph’ said, “Director Postecoglu is on the list of candidates for Tottenham manager. It is not a top priority, but the Tottenham board is definitely an option to check.”
Postecoglu is an Australian manager who currently manages Celtic. He started his managerial career at South Melbourne and then worked for Australia’s age-group. Later, in 2013, he took charge of the Australian national team.
I even met Son Heung-min when I was coaching Australia. Coach Postecoglu, who led Australia in the 2015 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup, met Korea in the final and won the championship 2-1. At that time, Korea led the game to extra time with Son Heung-min’s equalizer, but lost the championship by conceding another point in extra time. After the game, Son Heung-min was scattered on the field and shed tears.
Meanwhile, coach Postecoglu has been leading Celtic since 2021 and is continuing a successful career. In particular, in the transfer market this winter, Oh Hyeon-kyu was recruited and the relationship with Korean players continued.
