Al-Marsad newspaper: Reports revealed 8 types of foods that can be eaten despite their expiration date.
1- eggs
Egg cartons are usually safe to eat for weeks following the print date.
Of course, the further away from the date, the fresher the eggs, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t eat them.
2- milk
It’s okay to consume most types of milk for up to one week following the date on the carton.
However, this depends on the type of milk you buy, and in general, the higher the fat content, the longer it will last.
3- Raw meat, poultry and fish
Raw meat and poultry will only keep in the fridge for a few days, but storing it in the freezer is a great way to extend its life.
You can keep a frozen turkey, for example, for more than a year, however, frozen ground meat only lasts up to four months in the freezer freezer.
4- pasta
The dry pasta in your cupboard will be fine for up to two years following the expiration date.
But if you’re a fan of fresh pasta, you should only eat it for up to five days following the date on the package.
5- cheese
Eat a lot of hard cheese long following its expiration date so that if mold has grown in the cheese, you can usually scrape it off and you can still eat it.
6- Vegetables and fruits packed in bags
Bagged salads may look a bit sloppy past their expiration date, but if it isn’t too long, they can usually be preserved by immersing them in ice water for a few minutes.
And when it comes to frozen fruits and vegetables, they are usually good for up to 10 months following the printed date.
7- Canned food
Many packaged foods can last up to two years past their expiration date, especially soups and vegetables.
And some canned foods, such as canned meat, can last up to five years. However, canned tomatoes and pineapple will not last that long due to their high acidity levels.
8- dry ingredients
Eating salt, pepper, flour, baking soda and sugar for a long time, due to lack of moisture.
However, if your dry ingredients smell strange, this might indicate a pest infestation.
