8 million was set aside to transform the “ghost house” – now the central car park is opening

The parking garage at the Aalborg Congress and Culture Center will be inaugurated today following seven months of renovation.

This is stated by Aalborg Municipality in a press release.

But the renovation is far from finished, even though the car park is already being put into use.

– The interior renovation is coming to an end, and then we need the exterior. Facade panels and gable paintings will come up in the spring, Frode Nielsen, center manager for parking, security and service at Aalborg Municipality, previously told Nordjyske.

Close to the city’s commercial life

In fact, the condition of the 21-year-old parking garage was so bad that Aalborg Municipality considered demolition.

Instead, they chose to allocate DKK 7.9 million from the municipal treasury to repair and renovate everything from the facade to the elevator, doors and lights. And although the exterior is still missing, the function is intact.

– We have moved around some installations a bit, so that there have been a little more spaces than before in the car park at AKKC, Frode Nielsen has previously said.

The car park is centrally located and a short walk in the tunnel under the train tracks leads directly to the Kennedy Arcade.

The parking capacity in Aalborg has long been cited as an accomplice in the pressure on business life.

A North Jutland price

With the central location, one might fear for the bill.

But the prices will remain the same following the renovation. DKK 8 per hour and DKK 40 per day.

The price level is thus still at the low end when you look at other parking options in central Aalborg.

By comparison, it costs DKK 16 per hour to park at Gåsepigen, DKK 14 per hour to park in the parking garage in Friis (first hour free) and DKK 13 per hour to park in Salling, while Sauers Plads only costs DKK 10 per hour.

The parking garage will be officially inaugurated by councilor from the City and Landscape Administration, Jan Nymark Rose Thaysen, on Friday 16 February at 10 am.
