New study shows 8 habits to extend life to 24

A new American study has revealed 8 habits that prolong life up to 24 years.

To do this, the research team relied on data from 720,000 military veterans in the United States. The latter filled out questionnaires concerning their lifestyle habits, in addition to submitting their medical records to the researchers.

The cohort aged 40 to 99 was followed in order to know the lifespan of each of the individuals composing it.

33,375 deaths among the people participating in the study were counted. This allowed the researchers to see the likelihood of death for people with each of the eight healthy habits.

Good nutrition, stress reduction and good sleep all contribute to a longer life expectancy

Dr Xuan-Mai Nguyen, lead author of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine study, said: “We were really surprised to see how much might be gained by adopting one, two, three or all eight lifestyle factors. »

Among these contributing factors, staying physically active, not smoking, and not being dependent on opioids had the greatest impact on lifespan.

Indeed, as the Dailymail reports: “These reduced the risk of death by 46% for active people, 29% for non-smokers and 38% for people without opioid problems, which can occur due to addiction to strong painkillers prescribed for the disease. »

Reducing stress, having a good diet, not drinking too much and sleeping well are factors that obviously also have an impact on life expectancy.

According to the study, they were linked to a reduction of regarding 20% in the risk of death.

Finally, the last factor relates to positive social relationships. They were linked to a reduction of regarding 5% in the probability of dying during the study.
