The INDONESIA Anti-Doping Organization (IADO) stated that a total of 784 urine samples from athletes of the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra PON were sent to Bangkok, Thailand, for doping testing at a laboratory there.
“All samples were taken from a number of athletes who were champions, record breakers and/or targets from 21 sports in Aceh and from 25 sports in North Sumatra,” said IADO General Chairman Gatot S Dewa Broto as reported by Antara, Monday (23/9).
He stated this in relation to the realization of anti-doping supervision in the implementation of the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra PON which took place from 9-20 September. The urine samples were taken from athletes in the two host provinces, namely in Aceh as many as 377 urine samples and North Sumatra as many as 407 samples.
Of all the samples sent, IADO has received the results of doping tests from urine samples sent in the first stage, as many as 80 samples, all of which were declared negative.
Meanwhile, for samples sent in the next stage, Gatot continued, they will not be announced by IADO until the completion of the trial process carried out by the IADO Result Management Committee.
Furthermore, he said, ideally all sports branches competed during the PON are sampled. However, due to limited funds for doping supervision, doping checks at the PON did not reach 10 percent of the total athletes.

The samples taken did not reach the minimum sample as stipulated in Article 49 Paragraph 3 of the Decree of the General Chairperson of KONI Pusat No. 74 of 2022 concerning the Third Improvement of the Decree of the General Chairperson of KONI Pusat Number 28 of 2017 concerning the National Sports Week Regulations.
IADO then conducted testing for mapping and identification of a number of sports branches from which samples were taken, namely at least those based on the Olympics, DBON (National Sports Grand Design) and also those at risk of possible use of prohibited substances even though they are not Olympic-based sports branches.
In the end, he said, IADO implemented a priority scale without reducing the quality and standards of doping supervision. Gatot also expressed his gratitude to the Aceh Health Office and the North Sumatra Health Office for facilitating all IADO’s needs in doping supervision.
The good synergy, he said, allows IADO to perform optimally even though at first it did require more effort to convince each other’s limitations. (Z-6)
