A 75-year-old man was injured in a home invasion in Vienna-Favoriten on Wednesday morning. Three men attacked the senior in his ground floor apartment and then locked him up. The elderly victim was able to save himself through a window in the inner courtyard, residents informed the emergency services. The man was taken to hospital with a bleeding head wound, police reported Thursday.
At around 8 a.m., the emergency services were called to the inner courtyard of the multi-party building on Columbusgasse. The injured man told the officers at the Keplergasse police station that he had just been attacked in his ground floor apartment by three men he did not know. The men knocked on his door and held an ID card in front of the peephole. Believing there were police officers at the door, the 75-year-old opened it. According to his statements, one of the three immediately knocked him to the ground and fixed him while the other two searched the apartment. The men then left the apartment with some cash and valuables and locked their victim in with the previously stolen apartment key.
One of the three men had lost an ID card, the 75-year-old found it and put it in a drawer. However, the perpetrator noticed that the document was missing. He unlocked the door once more and threatened the pensioner with a knife following he mightn’t find his ID. The victim then gave him his ID back and the perpetrator locked the door behind him once more, the man reported to the police.
He climbed out the window, where he was eventually found. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation.
