On this day, Changwon City Hall announced on its official Twitter account, “Due to the city bus strike, some routes will be suspended and reduced.”
The Changwon city bus union and the management held the 2nd and 3rd mediation meetings of the wage and collective bargaining negotiations from 3:00 pm the previous day, but negotiations might not be reached even following 14 hours of all-night negotiations, and a strike was eventually decided.
The union, which had previously requested a 7.4% wage increase, accepted the 3.5% recommendation presented by the Gyeongnam Regional Labor Committee, and the negotiations seemed to be progressing, but the negotiations broke down as they might not narrow their differences over the extension of the retirement age and other welfare benefits.
According to the city, 724 buses from 9 bus companies in Changwon stopped operating, and 2 companies and 3 village buses that also operate intercity buses did not participate in the strike.
Changwon City decided to prepare emergency transportation measures to minimize the inconvenience of citizens using public transportation and temporarily operate them.
The city operates 154 temporary buses, 37 non-participating buses, 143 chartered buses, and 11 public buses. Buses not participating in the strike can be used at normal fares, and the rest are free.
800 rental taxis, which operate only during rush hour and rush hour, also operate on the same route as the bus route. The usage fee is 1,000 won per person.
Changwon City said, “Citizens, please refer to the emergency procedure measures when using public transportation.”
