7-year-old girl dies after being struck by a car at a Queens intersection

NYPD reports that tonight, a seven-year-old girl died after being run over at the intersection of 46th Street and Newtown Road in Astoria, Queens.

In the accident, which is under investigation, a 46-year-old woman whose identity has not been released was driving a 2021 Ford Explorer when she struck the girl.

Realizing what happened, the woman stopped the car, and stayed at the scene of the accidentwaiting for the police.

The girl was immediately taken to Elmhurst Hospital where she was declared dead.

It is not clear if the girl was walking alone or with an adult.

The accident is under investigation.

Martínez comments that he and the driver had eye contact: “When I saw him, he looked away. It was when he ran over my son, and I couldn’t do anything anymore ”.
