A camera recorded the exact moment of the explosion in a supermarket in Rondonópolis (MT). The author of the attack saw the videos of the seriously injured seven-year-old child and, according to his wife, showed no reaction. Police confirm the man showed no regrets

A supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) exploded a bomb in a supermarket in Rondonópolis (MT). The crime took place on April 4, but the author was only arrested last Wednesday (12). A 7-year-old child was seriously injured.

Rodrigo Machado de Oliveira, 33, has no criminal record. He confessed to the crime and told the Civil Police that his objective was to extort R$300,000 from the supermarket chain, which would be paid in Bitcoin.
According to the investigators, during the testimony, the author of the attack said that his intention was to put the cryptocurrencies in a mixing service, to make it difficult to trace the public addresses to him.
Rodrigo sent messages to the supermarket chain identifying himself as ‘a member of an organization that carries out extremely violent actions’. He demanded payment of BRL 300,000 in Bitcoin, under penalty of an attack once morest the company’s stores.
On the same day, at around 6 pm, in one of the chain’s stores, an explosive device detonated, causing serious bodily harm to two people, one of whom was a seven-year-old child, in addition to injuring other customers.
After detonating the first bomb, the author of the message made new contact with the company’s customer service, once more demanding payment under threat of a new attack.
The company got in touch with the Civil Police, who ordered the immediate preventive closure of the supermarket chain’s stores. In one of them, another explosive artifact was located.
The Civil Police activated the specialized units – Special Operations Management and BOPE for disarming and detonation. The specialized teams attested that it was a well-prepared explosive device, triggered by an electronic mechanism for remote detonation.
At Rodrigo’s house, objects used in the manufacture of explosive devices were seized, such as gunpowder, electronic mechanism for remote detonation, ammunition, in addition to the motorcycle and other objects used in the crime.
“We don’t see any sign of regret from the suspect. Dialoguing with his wife, she told us that he saw the images of the injured people, he even showed the driver Rodrigo the image of the child hit and injured, that is, when the suspect took over the attack and once more threatened the victims who own the Tropical supermarket he was fully aware of the damage and violence he had committed,” says an excerpt from the police report on the case.
On social media, Rodrigo showed support for Bolsonaro. He is from the same state as Bolsonarist Alan Rodrigues, one of the men arrested for the bombing at Brasília airport in December 2022.
