7-year-old abused: 4 years in prison for father in Burgenland

A 38-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison in Eisenstadt on Thursday because he is said to have sexually abused his daughter, who was then seven or eight years old, from 2021 to 2022. The man is said to have sexually assaulted the girl almost 20 times while her mother was at work and her older brother was in his room. The defendant denied this in court. The verdict is not yet legally binding.

A jury found the father of three guilty of serious sexual abuse of minors, rape, incest and abuse of authority. In addition to the prison sentence, he has to pay his daughter 10,000 euros. The 38-year-old had previously spoken in court regarding “fictitious” allegations and also denied family disputes and an alcohol problem. He filed both an appeal and an annulment complaint.

“Just cuddled”

The man said he was just watching TV and cuddling with his daughter. Judge Doris Halper-Praunias believed the stories of the girl, who confided in her mother in 2023. The now nine-year-old described the attacks “extremely believably, comprehensibly and in detail” – especially for her age, the judge noted in her verdict. “There is no reason at all to doubt it.”
