A seven-month-old baby died this Friday morning at the Hospital of the Venezuelan Institute of Social Security “José Antonio Vargas”, located in the La Ovallera sector, Libertador municipality, Aragua state, following allegedly presenting a picture of colic that It complicated his health condition, according to his relatives.
The little girl responded to the name of Eliannys Alejandra Medina Ponce, and according to her mother’s version, identified as María Ponce, she was admitted to the aforementioned care center with that health condition at regarding 7:00 am
In her statement offered to journalists of events, the citizen who lives in the Palo Negro parish of the aforementioned municipality of Aragüeño, explained that during her sad journey, supposedly the doctors of the also known “La Ovallera Social Security”, asked her for a series of medications in order to take care of her daughter.
“One to calm the pain, and the other was to hydrate her, she (the doctor) took me out and told me that until I had the medicines I would not go in,” Ponce said.
The citizen reported that she and her husband were waiting for financial aid to cover the costs of the requested medications. Upon receiving the money, her husband visited several nearby pharmacies on his bicycle, but did not find what the doctors required and continued to pedal to other sectors of the Libertador municipality.
In his version of how the death of little Eliannys Medina occurred, Ponce recounted that at around 9:00 a.m. he arrived at the health center once more, asking for the consideration of the doctors, since according to his daughter he was dying in his arms. .
“I went to the hospital once more and they told me where the medicines are and I told them that I mightn’t get them,” he said.
After this situation, Ponce explained that apparently the doctors on duty following observing the baby’s condition decided to admit her to the Insurance. “That is where the supplies appeared that I did not have to save my daughter, to treat her. Blisters began to appear, solutions, some yelcos that I did not have, they had everything saved, everything, ”he said.
The girl’s mother said that a few minutes later the doctors treated Eliannys, noting that she allegedly saw that they injected some medication to relieve the pain she suffered.
He added that the doctors tried to intubate the girl, alleging that she allegedly suffered a cardiovascular arrest at that moment. “The heart rate was at 200 and she went down until she got to 50 and she was unemployed,” she said.
However, she continued to report that the doctors supposedly took her out of the room, so they might try to save her little girl’s life.
“I wanted to see my daughter and they told me that I mightn’t see her, I insisted on seeing her, but they insisted that I mightn’t see her,” he told the communicators.
Ponce received the unfortunate news at 11:00 a.m. that his daughter Eliannys Alejandra Medina Ponce died at 9:45 a.m. in one of the Social Security rooms in La Ovallera, due to a worsening of her health.
“They told me that they had done 30 minutes of resuscitation pulses and they mightn’t do anything. After her, they took me out of the room where I was with her and told me at the time that she had died, that they mightn’t do anything else for her, ”said María Ponce.
In this context, María Ponce accused the doctors who were on duty on the morning of September 2, 2022, since, in her opinion, they let the baby die due to medical negligence.
“Because of them, because they did not know how to treat her in time, when I entered at 7:00 in the morning, my daughter was alive right now,” he commented.
THREATENED BY SOCIAL WELFARE
Before learning of the death of her 7-month-old baby, María Ponce said that she was allegedly “threatened” by Social Welfare officials to take her daughter away from her, alleging that the citizen made the little girl go hungry, since she presented a picture of malnutrition
“My daughter was underweight because she had reflux, I had her under control with Dr. Malavé in Santa Cruz, and my daughter was skinny because she did not assimilate food,” she explained.
He went on to say that according to the pediatricians’ diagnoses, “all the food she ate, the bottles and stuff, she would throw up.” “She was undergoing treatment, in fact she was two months old on September 15, so the doctors did not want to understand that, they practically said that I starved her, that I was starving my own daughter,” she asserted.
ASK FOR JUSTICE
Given this situation, María Ponce asks the authorities to impart justice in this case, reiterating that the death of her daughter was the responsibility of the doctors of the La Ovallera Social Security.
“My daughter died due to medical negligence, because she was a 7-month-old baby, she was not to blame for anything and they had the right to have saved her and they did not save her, I only ask that justice be done, because she is just a baby, I just want that, that justice be done to my girl, “he said.
