7 injured, one seriously

Seven people were injured, including one seriously, in a fire which broke out on Friday around 9:45 p.m. in a 5-storey building in Crans-Montana, the Valais cantonal police communicated on Saturday morning.

It was a third party who alerted the police.

Quickly arriving on the scene, thirty firefighters from the Crans-Montana CSI, supported by the Sierre Region CSI, intervened. They were able to control and extinguish the disaster around midnight.

Committed vital prognosis

A resident who was unconscious on the threshold of his apartment was able to be extracted from the building by the firefighters. He was immediately airlifted by Air-Glaciers to HUG in Geneva. His vital prognosis is engaged.

Six other residents of the building were transported to the emergency room of Sion hospital. Three of them were transported by ambulance, placed under oxygen.

The other three were brought there by firefighters for further checks.

The damage to the building is substantial. Two apartments were completely destroyed by the flames.

In total regarding 50 people from three buildings were evacuated. Christian Zuber of the Valais Cantonal Police said on Saturday that residents had been able to return to their apartments, others found accommodation for the night and some were accommodated in a hotel.

The public prosecutor opened an investigation to determine the causes of the fire.
