According to a study published in the Nature Medicine journal, chronic inflammation that lasts for months can lead to diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, and autoimmune diseases. These inflammatory diseases and disorders are also related to aging in our body, which can be traced back to our daily eating habits. Here are 7 eating habits that cause inflammation and lead to faster aging.


Lack of Omega-3

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fats and provide many health benefits. Of the 11 types of omega-3 fats, the three most important are ALA, EPA, and DHA. Specifically, DHA (dihydroxyacetone) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are found in fish, and ALA is found in plant foods such as walnuts, chia seeds, and flax seeds.

According to a report published in the medical journal Frontiers in Psychiatry, omega-3s have the potential to help reduce inflammation associated with neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases such as depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia.

The study also concludes that both DHA and EPA have anti-inflammatory properties, but DHA is predominant. Thus, DHA reduced four inflammatory proteins in the body, while EPA fatty acids reduced only one. Not getting enough of these polyunsaturated fatty acids also increases your risk of inflammation as you age.
