Most people find oatmeal quite boring because of its neutral taste and mushy consistency.
Maybe you just haven’t gotten the hang of how to make oatmeal really delicious yet? We’ll tell you seven tricks that make them a culinary delight.
In the video above you can see how you should prepare oatmeal to avoid bloating.
1. Cook oatmeal – the timing is crucial
Is the consistency of your porridge a lottery every day? That doesn’t have to be the case. If you prefer your porridge to be creamy, you should only add the oat flakes when the milk is already boiling.
If you want the oat flakes to keep their shape, it’s best to put them in the cold liquid before heating them in the pan.
2. This is the correct bowl for the oatmeal
Are oatmeal too bland for you? Then it might be your breakfast bowl. If you prepare your flakes in a breakfast bowl that is too small, they will not swell optimally.
This means that the oat flakes cannot develop their flavor properly and combine with the other ingredients. So it’s better to use a large plate when preparing it.
3. Boil oatmeal with tea
Preparing it with tea also ensures more taste. This gives the grain more flavor and at the same time provides additional nutrients and antioxidants.
Green tea, for example, is particularly suitable. But don’t let the tea steep for too long, otherwise your oatmeal will become bitter.
Peppermint tea, which provides a light herbal note, is also suitable for porridge. Chiatees are also great. The spice notes such as cinnamon and cardamom harmonize perfectly with oat flakes, nuts or apples. If you like it sweeter, you can also use fruit juice for your porridge.
4. Add salt to the oat flakes
No matter whether you prefer your oatmeal sweet or savory: a pinch of salt belongs in every porridge. It gives the muesli a nutty taste.
5. Cottage cheese + oatmeal – it’s a match
If you want to give your oatmeal an extra portion of protein, you can also do so with cottage cheese. This not only keeps us full longer, but also creates a wonderfully creamy consistency.
6. Pour espresso onto the oat flakes
Coffee lovers watch out! Have you ever thought regarding adding your morning coffee to your breakfast instead of drinking it?
The combination of espresso and oat flakes is not only a real pick-me-up, but also super delicious. With a sip of milk the whole thing becomes a little creamier.
7. Pimp the porridge with toppings
The best comes last – or on top. There are no limits when it comes to porridge. You can also pimp your oatmeal with raisins, chia seeds, granola, cocoa nibs or nuts.
They provide you with additional protein and fiber and provide an extra crunch.
