On Friday April 14, 2023, the 13th validation workshop for road traffic accident statistics in Mali for the year 2022 was held. The figures were revealed to the general public: 8189 cases of accidents were recorded, making 8297 wounded and 684 killed. Although these figures are down from 2021 (10,614 accident cases, 9,085 injured and 736 killed), they remain alarming. The workshop, organized by the National Road Safety Agency (ANASER), brought together road safety stakeholders and aimed to validate the statistical data of road traffic accidents for 2022.

The Technical Advisor to the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Malick Kassé recalled that the national objective in terms of road safety is to reduce the number of road deaths by 50% by 2030. To achieve this objective, it is necessary to improve the tools and methods for collecting and processing data on road safety. The figures must be reliable and sufficiently disaggregated to meet the commitment made by the country following the ratification of the African charter on road safety. ANASER will extend this data collection exercise to civil protection and health services to obtain even more detailed data.
