The starting signal for the new hunting season was given to: 68 thousand active hunters, on an area of 4 million hectares, by the National Agency for Water and Forests and the Royal Moroccan Hunting University.
Morocco has 68,000 active snipers, with a total area leased for snipers covering 4 million hectares.
The National Water and Forest Agency said that this field has a very important vital and economic role, given that there are about 124 companies active in it. It also generates about one billion dirhams annually, which contributes to creating direct and indirect job opportunities in rural areas, stimulates the local economy and contributes to its revitalization.
Tenants of hunting areas invest 60 million dirhams annually, 30 percent of which is allocated to preserving game species and improving hunting infrastructure.
On the occasion of the start of this season, last Thursday, in a study and awareness-raising day organized in the Kenitra province, the Director General of the National Agency for Water and Forests, Abderrahim Houmi, said that the 2024-2025 season will witness a significant strengthening of monitoring measures, in cooperation with local authorities, security services and civil society. Given that illegal hunting still poses a continuing threat to Moroccan wildlife, efforts will be made to intensify monitoring measures throughout the Kingdom.
The Director General of the National Water and Forest Agency indicated that the institution will strengthen its hunting police units to detect and punish violations, and he encouraged the need for cooperation and collaboration with hunting associations and activists in the tourism field in order to report any violation.
