Some 6,200 new cooperatives were created in 2022, bringing their total number to 53,800 at the end of the same year, said Tuesday the Minister of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra. Ammor.

“We are betting a lot on young and women’s cooperatives, and that is why we are investing massively with the Cooperation Development Office (ODCO) in training programs, marketing, support for innovation and digitalization of these cooperatives,” said Ms. Ammor who spoke at the Office’s Board of Directors.
In this regard, the minister underlined the importance of the Social and Solidarity Economy (ESS) sector as a resilient economic model, highlighting its crucial role in the socio-economic development of communities and in financial empowerment. young people and women.
She also highlighted the considerable potential still to be exploited, estimating that the global ESS strategy, currently being developed within the ministry, will support the objectives aimed at contributing up to 8% of GDP, as well as the annual creation of 50,000 new jobs, by 2035, in accordance with the guidelines of the New Development Model. Ms. Ammor also highlighted the imperative to continue to develop cooperatives, being the most widespread model in this sector.
For her part, the Director General of the ODCO, Aicha Errifaai, presented a quantified assessment of the Office’s achievements during the year 2023, highlighting the various support measures such as the 4th edition of the program ” Mourafaka”, as well as the ongoing work on the emergency plan intended for cooperatives affected by the Al Haouz earthquake, the deployment of which was entrusted to ODCO.
She thus presented the broad outlines of her action plan for the year 2024, which will strengthen support and assistance efforts towards cooperatives.
