This62 films will be screened in the 28th IFFK’s World Film category, including Justin Treat’s ‘The Anatomy of a Fall’, which won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Films from countries like Argentina, Russia, China, Japan, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan, Italy, France and Spain will be screened in the world cinema section of the fair. This includes 26 Oscar entries for Best Foreign Language Film and 17 films by women directors. Sri Lankan film director Prasanna Vithanage’s first Indian film Paradise is also the only Indian film in this category.
‘Anatomy of a Fall’ tells the story of Sandra Hüller, a German writer accused of murdering her husband. How to Have Sex is a Molly Manning Walker film that follows a group of English teenagers who go on holiday to Malia. Written and directed by Milad Alami, the Swedish-Norwegian film Opponent tells the story of Iman, who flees Tehran and seeks refuge in northern Sweden. The Bearend is a true-life story of a couple who lost their jobs due to the civil war in Yemen. Directed by Luna Carmoon, Horde is a film that portrays society’s harsh view of poverty and family complexity through the story of a mother-daughter bond. The Korean film Cobweb, directed by Jee Woon Kim, revolves around director Kim Ki-yeol’s anxiety regarding reshooting the ending of his last film and the subsequent events.
The Promised Land is a Danish film directed by Nikola Arcel that tells the story of Ludwig Kahlen, who follows his lifelong dream of gaining wealth and recognition from a wasteland. Abbas Amini’s Persian film Endless Borders, Spanish film The Punishment, French film The Rapture, Ryutaro Ninomiya’s Japanese film Dreaming in Between, Korean film Sleep, Amjad Al Rasheed’s Arabic film Inshah Allah a Boy etc. will also be screened in the world cinema category.
