6,000 participated in the Dead Sea Marathon

Minister of Tourism Haim Katz and head of the Tamar Dead Sea Regional Council Nir Wenger launched the 5th Dead Sea Eretz Marathon this morning. There were 5 legs in the marathon in which regarding 6,000 participants participated, of which regarding 2,500 ran the half marathon which was started by Eli Ron, the father of the brothers Tomer and Giura Ron, the late, members of Kibbutz Ein Gedi.

In an impressive view: the Dead Sea Marathon

The second largest race was 10 km, in which regarding 2000 participants participated. All the runners were launched on new tracks in the new section of the boardwalk and on embankments that they had never run on before. During the run, the participants climbed the embankment on Israel’s eastern border with Jordan. Among the participants were Families of abductees, members of bereaved families, wounded from the war, military personnel and evacuees.

Ruthie Greenlick, Her son Shaoli, who died fighting in Gaza, ran 10 km in his memory and said: “Running for me is my mental health in general and these days in particular. I felt like I was running with my son’s hand on my shoulder.”

Itamar Wiesel, the twin brother of the late Elkana Wiesel who fell in the disaster of the collapse of the buildings in Gaza and ran with the friends of the late Elkana 10 km under the message that Elkana left in his last letter: “Live! Hold each other’s hands and don’t stop the energies of life for a moment.”

Jujube lightwho was seriously injured in an operational activity in Khan Yunis and is currently undergoing complex rehabilitation, started the 5-kilometer leg and said: “As someone who has twice previously run the full marathon leg here in the shortest marathon in the world, I am very happy for the opportunity and the ability to take part in the event. Despite the injury and the long rehabilitation that is still ahead of me , I intend to run in the 2025 Dead Sea Marathon.”

Shaul Levy, the 78-year-old whose granddaughter Naama was kidnapped in Gaza and ran 10 km for the return of the abductees: “I ran this morning in the Dead Sea Marathon with 6,000 other runners for her. I feel that we transferred crazy energy to kidnappings and kidnappings. Just don’t lose hope. Hold on a little longer. We will bring you all back home!”.

Nir Wenger, head of the Dead Sea Tamar Regional Council: “I insisted on holding the marathon with the understanding that holding sports and cultural events during wartime are one of the characteristics of routine and resilience. The tradition of holding the marathon is our mission, victory and civic contribution to strengthening the resilience of the home front, along with supporting the IDF men and women in all regions the fighting. The runners had a healthy break for body and mind and we all wish for the quick return of the abductees. I thank all the partners in organizing the marathon.”
