BANGUI, Central African Republic, September 2, 2024 /African Media Agency (AMA)/- Between 23 and 30 August 2024, MINUSCA police conducted two separate training courses in Bangui at the National Police Academy for police officers and at Camp Izamo for gendarmes, as part of the capacity building of the Internal Security Forces (ISF). These training courses involved 60 ISF members, including 22 women, divided into two groups: the training for gendarmes focused on judicial policing, while that for police officers focused on administrative policing.

It was expected that the Central African police and gendarmes would acquire, at the end of the training, the skills necessary for the maintenance and restoration of public order (MROP), particularly in view of the upcoming elections. The sessions were led by national trainers, Central African police and gendarmes, assisted by their colleagues from MINUSCA.

The gendarme of 2e ClassEmmanuela Christevia Ingasso, serving at the National Gendarmerie General Staff, stressed that: “During this training, we demonstrated exceptional commitment and remarkable assiduity. Our enthusiasm for learning and applying new knowledge in judicial police reflects our dedication to improving security conditions and meeting the expectations of the Central African population.”

At the end of the training at the National Police Academy, Ines Marcelle Moudabanga Dawalo, a peacekeeper serving at the National Security Company, said: “This training has strengthened our skills in crisis management and restoring public order. The lessons learned will enable us to better respond to security challenges, particularly during the upcoming elections. We are now better prepared to effectively ensure the safety of our fellow citizens during periods of public order disturbances.”

Saly Baro Drame, MINUSCA trainer, specified the objectives and expected results of this training: “Participants will now be able to master the concepts of operational and tactical command, general criminal law as well as criminal procedure leading to the drafting of reports, which will enable them to successfully carry out their mission of maintaining order and protecting civilians.”

Ethics and professional conduct, weaponry and security measures, as well as the rules of engagement and conditions of use of weapons were also covered during this training.
