60% of social minima recipients live below the poverty line and their average standard of living peaks at just over 1,000 euros per month. This is what emerges from a study by the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Drees), the statistics service of the Ministry of Health and Solidarity, published on Friday July 7.

The report covers the year 2018, but it gives a very precise idea of ​​the standard of living of those who receive social minima and other state aid. According to the DREES, this proportion was stable between 2012 and 2018. By way of comparison, 15% of the entire population lives below the poverty line. In 2018, this threshold was 1,063 euros per month.

The beneficiaries of the RSA are the most precarious. Their average standard of living is 940 euros per month. Three quarters of them are below the poverty line. This amount takes into account the solidarity income, but also any salary and other state aid, housing allowances and family allowances for example. Those who are entitled to the minimum old age fare hardly better. They live on 1,080 euros per month. Beneficiaries of the disabled adult allowance expect 1,250 euros.
