On the evening of February 21, information from the People’s Committee of Mai Hich commune, Mai Chau district, Hoa Binh province said that a suspected mushroom poisoning case had occurred in the area, causing 6 people to be hospitalized.

Specifically, on February 18 and 19, the Medical Center of Mai Chau district received 6 cases of citizens of Hich hamlet, Mai Hich commune with abdominal pain, nausea, and loose stools following lunch. at home.

Information from patients, it is known that on the morning of February 17, two people following going to the forest picked a bag of wild mushrooms, regarding 200g, and brought back to cook mushroom soup with guise leaves.

The dinner that night had additional dishes: Stir-fried bitter bamboo shoots, chicken, stir-fried eel with sour ears, cooked pork intestines bought at the market, spinach soup and added wine with the meal. The meal was eaten by 8 people, including family and acquaintances, having lunch at regarding 12 o’clock.

About 15 hours following eating, 4 patients showed symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loose stools. At regarding 6:44 am on February 18, one patient was taken to Mai Chau District Medical Center for emergency. After regarding 3 hours, another 3 patients were brought here for treatment with the same symptoms. On the morning of February 19, 2 more patients were brought to the emergency room.

Here, the doctors of Mai Chau District Health Center treated intravenous fluids, activated charcoal, pain relief, secretion reduction, intestinal antibiotics.

By regarding 9 am on February 20, 2 out of 6 patients admitted to the hospital showed no signs of progress. After consultation, Mai Chau District Medical Center transferred 2 patients to higher level for treatment.

The remaining patients progressed well with no vomiting, no bowel movements, sometimes dull abdominal pain around the navel. Currently, the patients are continuing to be treated at the Internal Medicine Department of Mai Chau District Medical Center.

Doctor Hoang Cong Tinh, Head of the Department of Intensive Care – Anti-poison, Hoa Binh Provincial General Hospital recommends: People should not pick any mushrooms from the forest for food. Because, there are many cases where mushrooms often grow and poisonous mushrooms, it is difficult to distinguish.

Doctor Tinh added: In case people have mistakenly eaten poisonous mushrooms and have abnormal symptoms, it is necessary to immediately go to medical facilities for examination and treatment. Because mushroom poisoning happens very quickly, it can be life-threatening.
