It has been six months since the traffic screening devices were put in place.
Since the establishment of GoodMove links in the Brussels pentagon, traffic has decreased by almost 20%, according to the City of Brussels. The number of cyclists increased by 23% during the morning rush hour and by 13% during the evening rush hour.
It has been six months since the traffic screening devices were put in place. It is therefore time for a first evaluation.
These figures come mainly from the City’s annual measurements. The count took place during the morning and evening rush hours at 44 Pentagon intersections and to 30 other places around the Petite Ceinture. A comparison between the figures of October 26, 2021 and Don November 8, 2022 was also conducted, all between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., then between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Traffic from the Petite Ceinture has, for example, decreased by 16% while traffic in the Pentagon itself fell by an average of 19.2%. However, there are still black spots, bottlenecks, where the accumulation of traffic remains more problematic. This is the case, for example, near the Porte de Flandre, where total traffic has not changed. Traffic has even increased in some places as on the Place des Palais, the Place Royale, the Place Rouppe or at the foot of the Rue des Colonies.
On the Brussels Mobility side, we are told not knowing a priori of traffic transfer on the Petite Ceinture, following this GoodMove mesh. The regional body specifies, however, that the figures might still change following the end of the work on the Trône tunnel, which has also upset the mobility habits of motorists in Brussels.
