O 5G should reach almost 2 billion global connections until the end of this year. At least, that’s what the data from the Omdia it’s yes 5G Americas, which show the level of penetration in the North American market, while new networks with the standard are being built more quickly worldwide. Chris Pearson is President of 5G Americas and commented:
With the entry into operation of 5G networks in North America, the technology is experiencing a strong adoption cycle in the US and Canada. According to information from Omdia, 157 million new 5G connections emerged worldwide between 4Q22 and 1Q23, which shows a breakthrough in technology. Thus, the projection shows that the mark of 2 billion connections should be reached by the end of 2023, as well as 6.8 billion subscribers by the end of 2027.
According to TeleGeography and 5G Americas, 267 commercial networks equipped with the connectivity standard are already in operation. Thus, it is possible that this number will increase to 386 by the end of 2023, reaching 413 by the end of 2025. Until the last June 15th, these were the numbers of 5G and 4G networks in operation:
