A Winity exercised his right to renounce and gave up leave which it acquired in the 5G auction. After completing the spectrum for R$ 1.42 billion, the operator decided to return it to Anatel. As reported by the portal Technoblogthe move taken by the company has to do with an agreement signed with Vivo.

This agreement was closed in August 2022 with the operator and aims to rent part of the 700 MHz spectrum. Despite having received consent from Anatel, the agency implemented conditions for the situation. Something that influenced the waiver of frequency was Vivo’s prohibition on making RAN Sharing at 2.03 GHz and 3.5 GHz in cities with less than 100 thousand inhabitants.

This would be valid until 2030 and the closure had a chance of making the deal with Winity, which depended on the contract to build its infrastructure, unfeasible. The company issued a note in which it talks regarding the matter:

From Winity’s perspective, the signing of long-term contracts for the use of infrastructure is an essential condition for enabling a sustainable business model that allows, on the one hand, to meet the necessary billion-dollar investments.

After winning the license, Winity had the duty to fulfill commitments such as building 4G coverage on more than 55 thousand km of federal highways. Likewise, it should serve places that are not yet served by network services. In general, the idea was to serve other operators instead of the end consumer.

Even following withdrawing, the company continues to provide infrastructure for other companies in the segment. In total, this is the third withdrawal of an operator entering the 5G auction. FlyLink e Neko it was the other companies that ended up giving up on implementing solutions involving frequency.
