The Department of Health announced today (22) that there were 5,990 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, including 5,827 local cases and 163 imported cases. The Hospital Authority announced that 17 more patients died today, 12 of whom have not yet completed the three-shot vaccination.
The fatalities included 9 men and 8 women, aged between 55 and 99.
The Hospital Authority announced that a female patient in the Caritas Orthopaedic and Trauma Department developed a cough and fever on September 19, which was confirmed by testing later. Six female patients and six employees in the same room were diagnosed and are receiving treatment. The other two are listed as close contacts to be quarantined, and visits to the relevant wards have been suspended.
Today, 5 more patients in 5 residential care homes for the elderly and 2 inmates in 2 residential care homes for the disabled were diagnosed. In addition, a total of 746 cases were reported by schools, and 18 classes had to be suspended.
Au Ka-wing, chief doctor of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Centre for Health Protection, pointed out that the peak of the epidemic in Hong Kong has passed and it has begun to stabilize and decline. When asked regarding news that Hong Kong will soon implement the “0+7” entry quarantine measures, that is, the mandatory hotel quarantine may be cancelled, Au Jiarong pointed out that according to his understanding, the government will consider any plan, and no decision has been made yet.
