Belgian citizens sometimes hold funds that are dormant at the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations of the FPS Finances. It is now possible to retrieve them electronically through the “e-DEPO” platform, the federal administration said in a press release on Monday. No less than 593 million dormant euros are currently waiting to be “awakened” at the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations of the SPF Finances.
This money comes from accounts, insurance or safes transferred to the fund due to proven inactivity of their beneficiaries. These can be funds lost to sight (for example a forgotten old account), or funds paid without knowing it into an account for the benefit of a person (in particular in the context of an inheritance), explains the SPF Finances .
It was already possible to search for these assets via the MyMinfin site. Now, a 100% digital method makes it possible to quickly recover dormant assets. Concretely, any citizen first checks whether he has dormant assets in his name through MyMinfin, before recovering them via e-DEPO in the event of a successful search.
The FPS Finances invites citizens to regularly consult the files in their name in e-DEPO, because funds are sometimes transferred there when the person’s bank account is unknown or invalid in the context of a reimbursement, for example.
