According to the police, a 59-year-old German citizen died in the crane accident in Münchendorf (Mödling district) on Tuesday. The public prosecutor’s office in Wiener Neustadt ordered an autopsy, said authority spokesman Erich Habitzl on Wednesday when asked. The 59-year-old was sitting in the cab of a semi-trailer when the remote-controlled tower crane fell and crashed into the vehicle. The truck cabin was completely deformed, the driver died at the scene of the accident, the fire brigade reported.
A 53-year-old from the Mödling district acted as the crane operator. The man collapsed following the accident. He suffered a shock and, according to police spokesman Stefan Loidl, was treated on an outpatient basis in a hospital.
