Today, there are 90,331 confirmed cases in mainland China, and 59 deaths in one breath, a double record! In this regard, Chen Shizhong, commander of the Central Epidemic Command Center, said that the growth rate of local cases is regarding 6%. Among the 59 new deaths today, more than 60% were elderly people over the age of 80, and the younger deaths were in their 30s and had a history of chronic diseases.

Today, 90,331 local cases have been added, including 43,597 males, 46,682 females, and 52 cases in the investigation, aged under 5 years old to over 90 years old. The cases are distributed in New Taipei City (24,826 cases), Taoyuan City (13,827 cases), Taipei City ( 12,060 cases), Taichung City (7,444 cases), Kaohsiung City (6,576 cases), Tainan City (4,795 cases), Hsinchu County (2,702 cases), Keelung City (2,530 cases), Changhua County (2,313 cases), Yilan County (2,144 cases) cases), Pingtung County (2,142 cases), Hsinchu City (1,877 cases), Miaoli County (1,513 cases), Hualien County (1,345 cases), Yunlin County (1,048 cases), Nantou County (1,026 cases), Taitung County (692 cases), Chiayi County (664 cases), Chiayi City (462 cases), Penghu County (186 cases), Kinmen County (137 cases), Lianjiang County (22 cases).

There are 59 new deaths, 32 males and 27 females, aged in their 30s to over 90s, all of them were severe infections, 58 had chronic medical history, and 31 were unvaccinated. The date of diagnosis was between April 21 and May 16, and the date of death was between May 7 and May 17. Another 47 cases were added overseas, including 30 males and 17 females, aged between 10 and 60 years old, and the date of entry was between April 27 and May 18.

Luo Yijun, deputy head of the medical response team, added that only 1 of the 59 deaths had no history of chronic diseases, and a total of 31 people were fully vaccinated, of which more than 60% were elderly people over 80 years old. Among them, the younger cases were those in their 30s and 50s who had a history of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and cerebral hemorrhage, and were complicated by acute myocardial infarction and septic shock.

Up to now, a total of 1,070,561 confirmed cases have been confirmed in China, including 12,392 imported cases, 1,058,115 local cases, 36 Dunmu Fleet cases, 3 aircraft infections, 1 case unknown and 14 cases under investigation.

A total of 1,235 deaths have occurred since 2020, of which 1,220 were local, including 585 in New Taipei City, 405 in Taipei City, 64 in Keelung City, 36 in Taoyuan City, 23 in Changhua County, 21 in Taichung City, 14 in Hsinchu County, 13 cases in Kaohsiung City, 11 cases in Hualien County, 8 cases in Pingtung County, 7 cases each in Yilan County and Tainan City, 6 cases in Yunlin County, 5 cases each in Taitung County and Chiayi County, 4 cases in Nantou County, and 3 cases in Miaoli County 1 case each in Hsinchu City, Chiayi City and Kinmen County; the other 15 cases were imported from abroad.
