Every year we wait for major launches in the smartphone market, and when they arrive, it means that some older model will cease to exist. The problem is that Motorola has been practicing a policy that doesn’t seem to make much sense to users. Modern and recent appliances are going out of production in a short time. In this article, see six of these models that have already been discontinued in 2024.
6 Motorola’s that have already discontinued less than 2 years ago
All models on this list were launched less than two years ago and are no longer officially sold by Motorola. This means that they have already been discontinued to make way for models that were launched less recently. The Edge 40, for example, arrived in Brazil less than a year and a half ago and Motorola has already stopped selling it.

You can even find these models for sale in Brazilian retailers, whether in physical stores or e-commerce, but they are no longer sold on the website and in official Motorola stores. In my opinion, the impression it gives is that Motorola no longer recommends the purchase of these models, preferring to highlight cell phones that were launched a few months ago.
The Moto G line is already known for not receiving as much attention from Motorola, especially because the company only guarantees one system update for any Moto G model. I’ll give you an example: Motorola recently launched the Moto G55 in Brazil with the system Android 14 from the factory, but at the end of the year Google will launch Android 15. This means that from January 2025, the Moto G55 can receive the first and last system update and that’s it, it’s over.
In other words, this policy of “killing” a reasonably new device is just a way for the company to launch more devices per year and consequently force its customers to buy newer, more modern models. But as you have seen, this problem even affects models in the Edge line, Motorola’s famous high-end series.
Do other brands do the same?
Samsung doesn’t go much further than a generation either, except for products in the FE line. However, we can find the S23 line being sold normally on the brand’s website, which is a generation behind the current model.
Unlike them, on Apple’s official website you can still buy the iPhone 13, launched in 2021. Of course, at the usual exaggerated price, but it’s there for anyone who wants to buy.
