A majority of Democrats and pro-Democrat independents want someone other than Biden as their 2024 presidential candidate, according to a poll by The Washington Post and ABC published on Monday.
Only 35% of pollsters said they wanted Mr. Biden as the nominee, while 56% said they should choose another candidate. Among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, 47% said they would support former President Trump in 2024, while 46% said they would prefer another candidate.
Biden has a 39% approval rating and a 53% disapproval rating. He has a 36% approval rating and a 57% disapproval rating for his economic policies.
In the November midterm elections, 47% of registered voters said they would vote for the Republican candidate in the House election, while 46% said they would vote for the Democratic candidate, similar to the results of the April survey.
The survey, conducted Sept. 18-21, included 1,006 randomly selected adult Americans, of whom 908 were registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 points.
