During the surgery performed by the doctors, 56 objects came out of his stomach, including watches, mobile batteries, sharp blades, nails and other metal pieces.

**Interview with Dr. Anjali Sharma, Gastroenterologist**

**Editor:** ⁣Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Sharma. We’ve recently heard a shocking story from Uttar Pradesh where a 15-year-old boy had 56 foreign objects removed from⁣ his stomach. What can you tell us about such cases?

**Dr. ⁣Sharma:** Thank you for having me. Such cases,⁢ while rare, can occur ⁣when individuals, ‌particularly children, swallow non-food items out of curiosity⁣ or for attention.‍ The ‌human⁢ stomach ⁢can be quite resilient, but ⁣it is not designed to handle ⁣foreign substances, especially in such large quantities.

**Editor:** Fifty-six objects is an astonishing number. What types of⁢ objects do you typically find in cases like this?

**Dr. Sharma:** Commonly,⁢ we find items like coins, toys, batteries, and even small⁤ household items. In some rare cases, people may swallow multiple objects at once or attempt to ingest things for emotional⁤ or ⁣behavioral ⁤reasons.

**Editor:** ⁣What are the immediate actions someone should take if they witness ⁣someone choking on a foreign object?

**Dr. Sharma:** If someone ‌is choking, it’s crucial to act⁣ quickly. First, encourage them to cough to try‌ to dislodge the object. ⁢If that ‌doesn’t work, call for emergency help and administer back blows followed by five abdominal ⁤thrusts, known as the Heimlich maneuver, until the object is expelled or medical‌ help arrives.

**Editor:** What can parents do to prevent their children from swallowing foreign objects?

**Dr. Sharma:** Education is key. Parents should be vigilant about the items available to their children, keeping small objects out of reach. It’s also important to⁢ teach kids about the dangers of swallowing non-food‍ items. Supervising young children during playtime can further minimize risks.

**Editor:** Thank you for your insights, Dr. Sharma. It’s critical for everyone to understand ⁤the dangers of foreign object ingestion and how to respond effectively.

**Dr. Sharma:** Thank you for having me. Sharing this information can potentially save lives.
