In addition to the two murders, the 54-year-old is also charged with another case of violence, burglary and attempted burglary.
The public prosecutor makes a reservation in the indictment that they will request custody for the man.
The man was arrested shortly after two men, Odd Bjørnar Blomstrand aged 67 and Helge Paul Kupiec aged 77, were found dead in their respective apartments in a block on Sandaker in Oslo on Friday 30 June 2023.
The indictment states that the accused man stabbed Blomstrand 31 times and Kupiec six times with a knife.
Got 21 years in prison in 2000
The man has also been convicted of a brutal double murder in Oslo on 12 November 1998. A year and a half later, in May 2000, he was sentenced to 21 years in prison and ten years’ probation for the murders of the retired married couple Eva Auke and Arne Gunnar Auke in Sinsen.
The 67-year-old woman and the 70-year-old man had sustained 66 and 25 stab wounds, respectively, with what is described in the judgment as “a strength and brutality that testifies to a very strong aggression”. Two knives were used, according to the verdict.
The court found the then 30-year-old man guilty of premeditated murder under particularly aggravating circumstances.
One of those killed was a key witness
77-year-old Helge Kupiec, who was killed last year, was the police’s most important witness against the defendant during the trial for the double murder at Sinsen in 1998.
The defender of the 54-year-old, lawyer Kaja de Vibe Malling, has previously said that she believes there is no connection between the two cases.
The accused man has acknowledged the actual circumstances, but has not pleaded guilty. The Oslo District Court has set aside eight days for the trial.
