On March 30, 2023, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, presented his “Water Plan”, intended to meet the challenges posed by climate change and guarantee access to quality water for all throughout the year. .
Among these 53 measures, some relate more specifically to health:
- From 2023, the identification of 1,000 projects, over 5 years, to recycle and reuse wastewater, and the support of project leaders for the reuse of treated wastewater thanks to a one-stop shop for submitting files (the prefect department) and support from France Expérimentation for innovative files encountering regulatory blockages (system open to all projects favorable to water resources).
- Also from 2023, the establishment of an observatory on the reuse of treated wastewater.
- The lifting of regulatory obstacles, also in 2023, to the recovery of non-conventional water, both in the food industry, in other industrial sectors and for certain domestic uses, in compliance with health protection populations and ecosystems.
- The implementation, from 2024, of management measures automatically put in place by the prefect, when an overrun of the quality requirements set for water intended for human consumption by a pesticide still in use is observed, and this in addition to the measures of the community water safety management plan.
- The endowment, by July 2027, of all catchments with a Water Safety Management Plan (PGSSE).
