Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested Vijin Varghese, a native of Kaladi Manjapra, who was arrested in the case of smuggling drugs worth Rs 1476 crore into India, in another drug case worth Rs 502 crore.

He was arrested in a case of smuggling 50 kg of cocaine under the guise of importing green apples from South Africa. Drugs were smuggled by hiding them between apple boxes. In the first case, the re-arrest was recorded while he was in the custody of the DRI.

Vigin was earlier arrested in the case of smuggling drugs worth Rs 1476 crore to India under the guise of importing oranges. The arrest came following 198 kg of methamphetamine and 9 kg of cocaine were found hidden among imported orange crates at the port of Navi Mumbai by Yummito International Foods, of which Vigin is the managing director. .

The DRI team has sought the help of Interpol for Malappuram Kottaikkal Tachanparamban Mansoor, who is believed to be the mastermind behind drug trafficking. Vij’s statement said that the import was done through More Fresh Exports in South Africa owned by Mansoor.
