The State Secretariat for Digitalization and Telecommunications announced this in a press release. The digital registration certificate and the digital ID card should also be completed next year.

The digital proof of age can be used by young people when buying alcoholic drinks and cigarettes, but also when visiting the cinema and clubs. The “verifier” only sees a photo, the time of the last update and the information as to whether the required age limit has been reached, i.e. not even the name or exact date of birth. The digital proof of age can also be used offline. “My goal is to have all ID cards that are in your wallet also available on your cell phone in the future,” said Digitization State Secretary Florian Tursky (ÖVP).
