The value of the subsidy granted by the government for the prices of tickets for rail and metro train tickets for government workers and some groups amounted to regarding 500 million pounds, in the budget for the current fiscal year 2022/2023, by 100 million pounds for the National Railways of Egypt and 400 million pounds for the metro the great Cairo.
According to the report issued by the Parliament’s Planning and Budget Committee on the state’s general plan and its draft budget for the fiscal year 22/23, this support provided by the government for this purpose is concerned with workers in the government sector and some groups such as “the disabled, the wounded of the revolution, the wounded in military operations, and the families of martyrs and veterans.” This is in accordance with the protocols signed between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport in this regard.
It is noteworthy that the support provided by the government for this purpose, whether for railways or metro lines in Greater Cairo, comes within the framework of expenditures allocated for support and grants provided for social services in the new budget for the fiscal year 2022/2023, with a total value exceeding 181 billion pounds.
