The Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is visiting Cyprus today, on the occasion of the black anniversary as it marks 50 years since the Turkish invasion and occupation of the island.

The Prime Minister, today at 20:30, will attend and speak at the commemoration event organized by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, to mark the 50th anniversary of the coup and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

This is a highly symbolic visit as Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be the first Greek Prime Minister to attend these commemorative events at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis will initially have a private meeting with the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis at 19:45 and then at 20:30 he will speak, sending messages in all directions.

The prime minister’s visit takes place at a time when Turkey has raised its rhetorical provocations, while it is recalled that the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will attend the occupied section on the same day.

Mitsotakis: Continue the discussions on the Cyprus issue

It is recalled that during his statements, attending the 4th European Political Community Summit, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized: “It is the last occupied and divided European region and I hope that the issue will eventually be resolved and the discussions between the two communities will continue under the auspices of the UN always in the spirit of the Security Council resolutions that define a possible solution”.

Erdogan is preparing a fiesta

A big fiesta with warships, F-16s and a military parade is being prepared by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived on Saturday morning in the occupied territories.

The streets have been filled with posters of the Turkish president accompanied by inscriptions such as: “Motherland Turkey is the permanent guarantee of the existence and well-being of the Turkish Cypriots”.

Turkey is preparing an unprecedented fiesta today, SKAI reports, as 50 ships along with the aircraft carrier Anatolus will be off Cyprus. Drones have also landed in the area and F-16s will also fly.

In fact, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, in the framework of the 50th anniversary of the “Peace Operation in Cyprus”, prepared a documentary in which it refers to the terrorist attacks of the Greek far-right organization EOKA B and the large massacres that took place once morest the Turkish Cypriots, under the pretext that they invaded in Cyprus on July 20, 1974 to save the Turkish Cypriots.
