This 2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of a ephemeris with ecological significance that was born to put an end to the presence of harmful components that alter the natural state of living beings worldwide. WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY, WHEN WAS IT ESTABLISHED AND WHO DIRECTS THE ACTIVITIES AROUND THIS EVENTS?
Annually, and since its founding in October 1945, the United Nations (UN) has been commissioned, among other functions, to dedicate certain days and weeks to raise awareness and/or sensitize the population about certain events or specific issues of relevance.
The United Nations General Assembly in 1972 it was the historic day and meeting in which its 193 member countries decided to establish the celebration of World Environment Dayand from the following year begin to commemorate each 5th June.
According to information published and shared by the official website of the HIMthis year’s anniversary will celebrate the 50 years of creation of the event whose objective is to put into practice actions that reduce air, soil and sea pollution, such as recycling.
This necessary activity to control the negative effects of pollution will constitute the pillar of this half century of impact on environmental causes that is led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) from 5th June of 1973, and according to the platform of the World Environment Daywill be sponsored in 2023 by an African country to carry out a new campaign of activities.

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE COMMEMORATIVE THEME FOR WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2023 AND WHICH COUNTRY WILL HOST IT?
The purpose of the 50th anniversary established by the HIM in 1972 to promote the conservation of natural resources, will focus this monday june 5 of 2023 in providing solutions to counteract environmental pollution through the execution of the campaign called “No plastic pollution”.
In collaboration with the Netherlands, Ivory Coast will be the host country of the event on this occasion, as announced by the UNEP and the African government in January of this year.
“The scourge of plastic pollution is a visible danger that affects all communities around the world.”, declared Jean-Luc Assi, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the country located in West Africa regarding the slogan of the campaign, and also extended the invitation to all sectors, governments and companies, and civil society to participate and join together in the celebration of the World Environment Day 2023.
Notably Ivory Coast in 2014 it prohibited the use of plastic bags and, since then, it has supported the transition towards reusable containers, wrappers and packaging, with Abidjan being the center for the consolidation of new companies aimed at combating plastic pollution.
