Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) Arco Ardjuna, a crude oil production storage vessel owned by Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ), ended its service period on August 14, 2024. The vessel was retired after more than 50 years of contributing to the country’s oil and gas needs.

PHE ONWJ General Manager Muzwir Wiratama said FSO Arco Ardjuna has become an important part of the company’s operational history. The fleet has not only witnessed the development of the oil and gas industry in Indonesia, but has also made a significant contribution to national energy security.

“We would like to express our gratitude for the dedication given by the entire crew who have maintained and operated the FSO Arco Ardjuna well for more than five decades,” said Muzwir as reported in an official statement, Thursday (15/8).

Its role will be replaced by FSO Ardjuna Prima which will start operating in September 2024. During the transition period, the duties of FSO Arco Ardjuna will be temporarily taken over by Temporary Storage Tanker (TST) MT Seaborne Petro.

During its service, FSO Arco Ardjuna, which began operating in 1972, has accommodated and distributed a total of approximately 1.28 billion barrels of crude oil. FSO Arco Arjuna began accommodating oil production in the ONWJ Block on June 4, 1972. Known as the longest operating FSO in the world, it has been recorded that 4,350 liftings have been carried out from this facility.

Before leaving the offshore field in the Java Sea, FSO Arco Ardjuna is scheduled to carry out the last lifting of crude oil to the MT. Success Dalia XLVIII tanker owned by Pertamina International Shipping.

A total of 200 thousand barrels of crude oil produced by PHE ONWJ will be transported to the Plaju refinery in Palembang. After completing the last task, the FSO Arco Ardjuna will be taken to Bintan, Riau Islands. There, the ship made by PT Mitsubishi Heavy Industri Japan will have its storage tanks cleaned.

With a length of 142.6 meters and a width of 48.2 meters, the FSO Arco Ardjuna weighs 153,202 tons. Located about 95 km from Jakarta, this crude oil container ship has an installed storage capacity of one million barrels. (Z-11)
