50% of flights canceled after a surprise strike by controllers

Paris airport said that “many delays and cancellations” were to be expected this Saturday due to a strike by controllers.

An unexpected mobilization. On this day of demonstrations against the pension reform, the ADP group (Airports of Paris) announced in the morning that “many delays and cancellations” were to be expected at Orly airport. According to our information, 50% of the day’s flights are canceled this Saturday.

In question, a surprise strike by air traffic controllers who decided to follow the call for mobilization launched by the public service unions as part of a national strike notice filed a few days ago.

No disruptions at other Paris airports

While several trade union organizations have called for a day of demonstrations but no strike this Saturday, this national public service notice had “not been relayed by the unions within the DGAC (General Directorate of Civil Aviation, Editor’s note)”, we are assured on the side of the administration responsible for supervising air transport. As a result, “the minimum service provisions” could not “be put in place”.

The DGAC currently says it is “in contact with the airlines in order to define the flight programs”.

At this stage, only “a few delays have been noted” at Orly, the other airports not being affected.

During the last day of mobilization, February 7, the DGAC had asked airlines to cancel one in five flights at Orly airport.
